Brief outline of initial concept:
|
Lyrebird is simply the most technologically advanced mixed initiative speech recognition product on the market. Team Spirit wrote their business plan on how to take this world beating technology to the end-customer. We proposed building the missing competences for the technology in a flexible startup vehicle, like marketing, customer service focus and support capabilities. The product will revolutionise all customer to business voice transactions by using Lyrebird Powered Solutions (LPS) to customize speech recognition applications at affordable prices.

How did winning the competition assist the development of your product?
|
Winning the competition generated recognition for the team which aided in the extraction of the Intellectual Property. It also helped in opening doors to our capital raising activities.

Where is the product now?
|
The core members of Team Spirit remain in this new start up vehicle called Inference Communications. We are very close to being fully operational.

Where do you see the product in the next two years?
|
Our goal is to make the product become the industry standard tool for speech recognition applications development, and LPS to be part of every speech recognition application sold in 5 years time Inference is aiming to be the "Microsoft Frontpage" of speech recognition.

2nd Place - Remote Animal Management Systems

Description
|
Remote Animal Management Systems (RAMS) is in the process of developing an innovative product that will allow farmers to remotely monitor the weight of their sheep. The device comprising a weighing platform, signal processing unit, identity tag reader and software can measure the weight of an animal as it walks over the weighing platform.
The device stores individual animal weights which the farmer can download later for use in management decisions relating to animal health, stocking rates or supplementary feeding. The RAMS device can be used with existing farm infrastructure. Alternatively it could be bought as the central component of more complex system which includes complementary products such as automatic drafting and remote signaling.

3rd Place - Southern Innovations
|
Description
|
Southern Innovations have developed a proprietary technology that will make airline travel safer by improving the explosive detection capabilities of baggage screening and ensuring it is economical for widespread airport deployment. Southern Innovations’ technology can also be utilised in other screening applications, such as public building and venue protection, as well as in other industries.
