2004 Winners

Competition Summary
MUEC 2004 had 41 entries competing for $85,000 worth of prizes.

1st Place - IntelliGuard

Product Description
IntelliGuard defends organisations against malicious internet attacks from clusters of zombie computers aimed at disrupting their internet operations and denying service to their customers.

Brief outline of initial concept:
IntelliGuard's system, developed in conjunction with the University of Melbourne, applies sophisticated algorithms to a historical database of internet traffic to defeat existing and new DDoS attacks that other systems cannot.

How did winning the competition assist the development of your product?
The most rewarding aspect of competing in the competition is the end result of a detailed business plan that has been guided and critiqued be experts. The competitive aspect stimulates effort and the team spirit of us against all "them".

Where is the product now?
The product has been further developed to a working prototype ready for real world testing. We are also extending it to defend against attacks on Voice over IP (VoIP) systems. We are currently discussing funding with VC investors to extend the technology into new areas and grow our technical team.

Where do you see the product in the next two years?
IntelliGuard will develop its DDoS product to fully tested prototype then sell it to a global organisation to build and market. The many other innovative products in the company's pipeline will be similarly developed and sold. The proceeds will highly reward investors and fund ongoing R&D and commercialisation of new products.
