The Competition

MUEC is the premier annual business plan competition initiated by Melbourne Business School MBA students in 1999.
It provides an excellent opportunity for members of the Melbourne University community to refine their new venture creation and business planning skills.
MUEC aims to create a mixing place of Australia's next generation of business leaders, technical experts, designers and people with spur of the moment brilliant ideas. MUEC encompases a series of workshops on developing a business plan including interaction, advice and mentorship from members of the start-up Investment community which help teams develop thier ideas to become commercially viable.
The competition offers:
Significant cash and service prizes;
Access to the local entrepreneurial community including business advisors and venture capital;
Mentorship from successful and seasoned professionals;
Education in crucial business planning skills in addition to higher level strategic insight into entrepreneurial activity;
Targeted feedback from leading entrepreneurs, investors, and business professionals comprising the MUEC Judging Panel;
Team building exercises facilitating the creation of a "winning team";
Broad media exposure across the Australasian region;
Advice for the winning team to enter a Global business planning competitions.

The core judging criteria as being:
• Quality of the underlying business idea
• Quality of the plan
• Quality of the pitch
• Amount of creativity demonstrated in transforming the basic idea into a plan.
Quality will not be defined explicitly, but will be left to the judges. However, in the case of the business idea itself, quality is presumed to include the social, environmental, and financial impacts of the business.
